Smallville Seasons 1 & 2
I don’t know why, but I’ve decided to watch this series. I’ve never been super into Superman, and when the show first aired, I think I dismissed it for being a “big budget” concept on a “low budget” network. Same reason I never checked out Buffy when it first aired.
In any case. I hate to state the obvious, but this Tom Welling (at least circa 2001) is a distractingly subpar actor. I hope he gets better.
The story so far is fine. Engaging enough. But man, there are some dumb decisions being made. This tale would be so much more interesting if the Kent’s weren’t… The Kent’s… But I suppose that was never in the cards. Oh, and of course the character with the least personality is the one that gets into the inner circle first. I imagine they were trying to give the character something more to work with.
And the dialog has the subtlety of a sledgehammer blow to the temple.
All that been said, I’m still watching. I’m quite surprised how much Kristin Kreuk has grown on me.
And my most favorite aspect of the show is spotting the more currently established performers popping up as guest stars in their early careers. So far I’ve spotted Adam Brody, Amy Adams, Lizzy Caplan, Fargo from Eureka, that guy who’s on Vampire Diaries, Iceman or his brother, Juliet from Psych, the Janitor from Scrubs, and to the opposite extent; two out of three sons of Tim the Toolman Taylor.
